A day to get lucky

What Is Akshaya Tritiya?
‘Akshaya’ is a Sanskrit term, which means ‘never diminishing’; and ‘Tritiya’ means ‘the third day’. It is believed that any spiritual activity (including meditation, chanting, donation and different forms of worship) performed on this day gives the benefit to the person forever.
When Is Akshaya Tritiya in 2014?
Akshaya Tritiya in 2014 will be celebrated on 2nd of May. Many people also know this auspicious day as Akha Teej. Every year, this great day falls on the third day of the bright half of Hindu month Vaishakha.
Significance of Akshaya Tritiya
As per the Holy Scriptures of Hindus, Akshaya Tritiya brings luck and success to the life of the believer. In order to make the inflow of wealth continuous, people also buy gold and precious jewelry.
The auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya is governed by Lord Vishnu. Another Hindu auspicious day that coincides with Akshaya Tritiya is Parashurama Jayanti. Sometimes, the Parashurama Jayanti falls on the day before Akshaya Tritiya due to the difference in the starting time of third day (Tritiya Tithe) as per Panchang.
People born on the day of Akshaya Tritiya are considered to be very lucky and become outstanding persons. Some of the luminaries born on the day of Akshaya Tritiya are:
·   Basaveshwara
·   Ramanujacharya
·   Adi Shankaracharya
·   Swami Chinmayananda
·   Lord Buddha
Hindu Event Astrology considers three days of the year very auspicious and one may perform all the spiritual or auspicious tasks during any time during these three days namely Yugadi, Akshaya Tritiya and Vijaya Dashami. These three days are not affected by any malefic effects.

Legend behind Akshaya Tritiya
Festivals are always associated with one or more legends. Same is the case with Akshaya Tritiya. The most famous legend behind Akshaya Tritiya is of Lord Krishna and his best friend Sudama.
Sudama was the childhood friend of Lord Krishna. He was very poor. One day, he decided to approach Lord Krishna for help. As a gift, he brought Poha (rice flakes) along with him. As he reached Krishna’s luxurious palace, he felt so ashamed for bringing such a poor gift for his rich friend. He tried to hide the pouch containing Poha. However, Krishna was quite smart. He immediately recognized his dear friend’s attempt of hiding something and asked him to show. Sudama was too shy to bring his hands fore. So, Krishna took the lead for finding out what he was hiding. He simply held Susana’s hands and brought them in front. Finally, he got to know what his dear friend Sudama was hiding.
Lord Krishna was delighted on seeing Poha. He started eating the Poha and relished it. Further, he followed the entire process of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (the guest is like God) properly to give a grand welcome to his dear friend Sudama. Sudama was overwhelmed by the hospitality of his friend. His eyes filled up with tears and he started crying .Lord Krishna embraced his friend. Sudama couldn’t say a word about his financial problems to his friend. He didn’t forget, but he was too hesitant to speak up. Finally, he turned back home empty-handed. As soon as he reached his place, the sight left Sudama awestruck. His old hut was transformed into a magnificent palace.
Do you know what did he see when he entered his brand new palace?
All of his family members were dressed in the royal attires. Everything around looked fabulous. It didn’t take a moment more for Sudama to realize that it was nothing other than the glorious boon of Lord Krishna, where he got blessed with a lot more of wealth than he expected. Now, that was on the day was of Akshaya Tritiya.
Hence, the day of Akshaya Tritiya is considered quite auspicious for material gains and unending wealth.
I hope we all get blessed like Sudama on this Akshaya Tritiya. But then you need to keep your faith and worship Lord Vishnu (Lord Krishna is one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu) on this glorious day of Akshaya Tritiya.
Happy Akshaya Tritiya 2014!

The Astrologer looks at the 10th house of a birth chart to know about the profession of a person. The 10th house is also known as the Karma Bhava, meaning the work .Karma also means
·         action - work - deed - effort - business - office - duty
One can know about employment, occupation, honor, trade, and commerce (also of the father) etc. from the tenth house. And to know the outcome of the profession the 11th house also called the Labha house is assessed
In addition to assessing the 10th house for profession and 11th house for its outcome and benefits, one also needs to assess the 10th and 11th house from Surya.
1.     Dignity, prestige, success in public life, father's wealth, and " Karma" or Effort, are seen in: 10th house from radix lagna
2.     L-10
3.     10th from Chandra and L-10-from-Chandra
4.     10th-from-10th, or Yuvati Bhava
5.     Radix (D-1) planets in Makara (Capricorn)
6.     Radix L-10 within navamsha
7.     Surya's condition in navamsha
8.     Radix L-10 within dashamsha (D-10, the 10th harmonic varga)
9.     10th house within D-10
10.                        Sun and Moon in D-10
Various house lords will alter one's style and ability in performance of active duty. A good house lord in the 10th makes profession, authority, and other implications of karma bhava better. A dushthamsha lord makes it worse. But all lords have certain good and bad effects.
·         For example+ L-2 occupying karma bhava puts L-2 in 9th-from-swakshetra, a decidedly auspicious angle.
·         Native exhibits well developed moral and aesthetic values, capital wealth (often a profession handling some form of cultural or capital wealth) and a healthy family lineage.
·         Graha drishti affecting karmasthana or L-10: benefics casting drishti upon L-10 improve easy and skillful expression of vocation
·         benefics on either side of the L-10 also improve easy and skillful expression of vocation
·         malefics casting drishti upon L-10 create obstacles and impedance in expressing and developing the basis of moral leadership
·         malefics on either side of the L-10 slow down or thwart easy expression of career and vocation
·         Mercury in 10th gives an administrative career. Saturn in 10th (with strength) shows a rise through toughness. Etc.
Leadership capability whether compassionate or authoritarian, whether popular or hated, whether in education, politics, commerce, law, finance, medicine, or a host of other marketplace specialties, will manifest through the 10th house and its lord.
Das comments, "A benefic is in 10 from Moon or a benefic is in 10." "This combination is of some advantage to your career and rise in life and your reputation. "
Auspicious Mercury is major indicator of ability to articulate complex thoughts. Therefore mercury along with strength of L-4and L-7 is required for success in higher academics, such as university teaching and research careers. Most people who earn Ph.D.'s will be found to have the strong positions of Mercury signifying verbal and written articulation and robustly analytical intelligence.
The ability  to practice all three traditional professions - teaching, law, and medicine - requires advanced graduate education, so all practitioners of the professions will have some planetary combination of Jupiter, Mercury, and L4-+L-7+L-10 which distinguishes their career as intellectually distinguished.
However it is the professors and consultants in these fields who are the most intellectually engaged with their subject matter. So, when we see a strong Mercury in yoga with favorable Guru and a distinguished Kendra lord, we expect not only a professional position, but also a degree of intellectual leadership within that profession.
Certain signs for Mercury are allied with specific professions.
·    Budha in Dhanusha [Mercury in Sagittarius] is quite helpful for practice of law, particularly at the teaching and policy levels. If other factors collude, Budha-Dhanushya can be a professor of law or top government policy maker. Very strong placement when in bhava-7 (= law courts)
·    Budha in Yuvati bhava (the 7th house)in most signs gives a natural capacity to articulate contracts and agreements. A natural negotiator. In Dhanushya rashi, excellent for the solicitor's profession, eventually becoming a judge.
·    uttama- Budha in Kanya (Mercury in Virgo) is supremely articulate; the native blessed with this placement will flourish in any field of logical inquiry and instruction. This position has a natural affinity for medicine, and will often be found teaching, writing, diagnosing and prescribing in one of the medical traditions - whether tribal medicine, homeopathy, pharmaceutical, Ayurveda, etc. Excellent in all rational-analytical professions. Tends to be a decision-tree professional of some stripe. See the gazillionaire investors Warren Buffet, Bill Gates; also the dramatist-lecturer Christopher Reeves, who earned millions by speaking and writing even while quadriplegic.
·    Swakshetra Budha in Mithuna (Mercury in Gemini) is also highly articulate but His focus tends toward rapid, short-term communication and rather than Kanya-Budha's slower more comprehensive, longer-term logical inquiry. Mithuna-Budha thrives in any fast-paced business environment but they are easily bored in stodgy academics. E.g., Budha in Mithuna/7 enjoys commercial law.
And a strong and well placed Venus indicates acting or related professions where one earns by virtue of arts like singing or acting. Generally Venus will have to be strong in the horoscope, for  one can  to be an actor, dancer or singer. Venus must be intimately connected with the10th bhava (house) in some way or other.
E.g., if Venus occupies 4th or 10th Bhava or if Venus aspects the 10th house or if Venus is conjoined with the lord of the 10th, the means of livelihood will be singing and acting.
If in a nativity, Venus becomes the strongest planet with reference to the 10th Bhava, and occupies powerful places from Lagna and the Moon, and joins Mercury, the native becomes an engineer."
The birth chart and the planets therein give a complete plan of our professions and it would be really helpful to take advise from a good Astrologer.

The housewarming ceremony -- the Griha Pravesh ceremony

Every living being needs a house and the natural instincts of the creature drive it to make its home. Human beings are no different. Home sweet Home !! And everyone wants to own one. It is one of the most important investments one makes in one’s life. And once the house is ready, the housewarming ceremony or the Griha Pravesh ceremony is performed.

Griha Pravesh is a very important and a sacred ritual followed by people worldwide. Some sort of religious ceremony is followed by people of all religion, to ask for the blessings of God for happiness and success in the new house.
There are three types of Griha Pravesh:
Apoorva Griha Pravesh: For newly constructed house
Sapoorva Griha Pravesh: Reentry into the existing house after moving elsewhere
Dwandwah Griha Pravesh: For renovated or reconstructed house.

The months, during which this auspicious ritual called Housewarming Ceremony is performed, also matters. Months like Karthik and Mrigashira are believed to give average results. Whereas, months like Ashadh, Bhadrapad, Shravan, Ashwin and Paush are believed to be inauspicious to conduct a housewarming ceremony. Also, performing Griha Pravesh Ceremony should be strictly avoided during Amavasya.
 Auspicious Months & Results
  • Magh- Gain of wealth
  • Falgun- Gain of wealth and children
  • Vaishakh- Increase in wealth and prosperity
  • Jyestha- Gain of son and cattle
Grah Pravesh Sanskar is done once a house is built and ready to move in. Pujas and rituals are performed for the safety of the home and the members of the family who will live there. Griha Pravesh Sanskar is done to bring positivity into the home and to ward off all the evils and negativity that may reside in there.
It is believed, that Housewarming Puja pleases all the Gods and planets, and wards off all the negativity. The religious rituals performed during Griha Pravesh are done for the safety and betterment of the individuals who live in the house.
Starting a life in a home after Housewarming Ceremony has its own benefits. We make our home for ourselves and for our loved ones, then why to neglect this auspicious ritual?
Other than the safety and success of the family members, House Warming Ceremony is also important to fetch in all the positive energies of the surroundings. There is no better place than a home and no other place can comfort us as much our home does.
The Puja for Griha Pravesh should be done according to the Griha Pravesh Muhurat. This is to ensure maximum blessings flow into the new home. Anything done at the right time will make the result more fruitful and effective.

Griha Pravesh will usually have the following ceremonies:
Vastu Puja for Griha Pravesh: Done outside the house, before entering.
Vastu Shanti for Griha Pravesh: Performing a Home, to drive away all the evil and negativity
Satya Narayana Puja for Griha Pravesh: This Puja is mostly followed in South India and also states like Maharashtra and West Bengal. Satya Narayana represents Lord Vishnu to some of his devotees. This Puja starts with the Puja of Lord Ganesh to remove all obstacles. This is then followed by performing Puja for the Navagrahas (9 planets) and finally Puja to Lord Satyanarayana for the well being and prosperity of the family.

Given below is the Griha Pravesh Muhurats  for the coming month. These have been decided according to the Hindu Panchang. One of the foremost important aspects for doing Housewarming Ceremony is the positioning of the Sun; and the most auspicious timing to perform Griha Pravesh Ceremony is when the Sun moves to Uttarayan (Capricorn).
